Day 1 Departing by car to Olkhon island. The distance between the island's
main village - Khuzir and Irkutsk is 300km or 5- 7hrs drive Winter drives
to the island are special: there is no local 'trouble maker' - old stupid
free ferry. In January, when the ice is solid frozen, a special road or
whatever authority check the sickness of ice, inspect if there are no
cracks along the way of the official ice road. After that, they set up
road signs and wooden marks and - voy la - the road is ready! Finally,
local mass media informs us about this great event, so people from the
cities know that it is absolutely safe to drive.
Day 2 Full board. Observing spectacular Burkhan stone/Shamanka. Hiking along a shoreline. Lunch. Your time to explore the village of lake. Staying with a fisherman's family. Electricity. Russian banya/Sauna. As an option, we can rent a mountain bike (why not?). Usually, ice has a snow layer. If the snow is soft - bicycling is not fun. However, fisherman drive on ice everyday and they have their own roads. So if you mountain bike on that road where the snow is firm, you will be able to enjoy fast and exotic biking.
Remember: Young children and people with unstable
physiology are advised not to enter the cave. Day 3 Ice Photo Salary! En route : visiting fishermen, helping them to pull out the nets or just
enjoying a shot of Vodka with them!
